Before South park last week, I had never heard of Peruvian Flute bands. Of course what do I see as soon as I visit the Space Needle?
I’m very intrigued by this phone, but the lack of a proper 3.5mm jack is definitely a dealbreaker. I’ll see what you’ve got in a couple years, Google/ T-Mobile.
Slightly oldie (before my official blog launch) but definitely a cool insight into the inner workings of Flickr.
Great series of points by Matt Haughey on how to get his “nerd vote”. They would get mine too.
So I finally get my blog back up, and blogging dies the same day. Well, I’ve never been one to go along with the masses.
It’s been a long time coming. I had originally taken a hiatus what must have been 3 years ago now, and stopped posting on my original site. I had rewritten my site in Django and found no suitable blogging component. I checked out some of the existing ones, but nothing seemed to work quite the way I wanted it to. I began writing my own, but never really finished one - there was always something I wanted to complete before I finished it. I really should have released early and often. I then had a short lived blog over at Vox when it first came out, and found it pretty good, but it wasn’t my own - not on my own domain, not built by me.
Of course in that time I’ve worked for two really great companies where I’ve been doing Django development like it was my job, mainly because it was my job. This meant the last thing I really wanted to do when I got home was work on Django projects, so Blog project stalled out yet again.
It was about that time when I declared “I’m done messing around!” I started looking into the various blogging platforms again. Dave Cancel was a big fan of Tumblr, using it on various sites.
Upon looking into Tumblr some more, I found i could pretty easily integrate it into my existing online identity, and make it a subdomain of my website. This was a total win-win for me: I get blogging capability I don’t have to manage, that works as a part of my domain, and allows for various extras I hadn’t planned on: quotes, links, and more. Couple that with a great commenting system and I was good to go (as soon as the DNS changes propagated). Apparently other people I follow had the same idea. I guess great minds think alike.
I’m hoping this and other blogs I’m going to be contributing to in the future will get my creative juices really flowing. Look for more cool stuff in the future. I have about 3 years of making up to do.
